Michael Horan Cycles for Macmillan

It is more than 450 miles between our pubs Cafe Royal in Edinburgh and The Grenadier in Belgravia, London, how long do you think it would take to cycle from one to the other?

Michael Horan, Managing Director of Metropolitan Pub Company, and his travel companion Tom Jones, Business Development Manager, believe it will take them 4 days to do the length of the country, averaging 110 miles per day.

After discovering a love of cycling whilst raising funds for the Youth Hostel Association Michael has gone on to represent Team GB in Duathlon at the European Championships. He has continued to take part in several cycling challenges and endurance events over the last 10 years to raise as much money as he can by turning the pedals and pounding pavements to give something back.

Herbie Toussaint

This time however is far closer to home as this epic challenge has been undertaken in the name of Herbie Toussaint, who sadly recently passed from Prostate Cancer.

Herbie was a pivotal character in Michael’s career as well as a “larger than life” close friend. As Head of Security whilst Michael ran a nightclub and bar during the “Madchester 90s”, (if you know, you know…) Herbie kept Michael and the team safe whilst equally educating on the many faces of Manchester.

For Herbie and the 1 in 2 that are diagnosed with Cancer, Metropolitan Pub Company has partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support to raise as much as we can for this great cause.

This brings us back to 450 miles from Edinburgh to London.

Michael said My contribution this time round will be cycling from Café Royal in Edinburgh to the Grenadier in Belgravia along with Tom Jones. Roughly 450 miles in four days! It will be painful, hard yards but glorious all the same. I am so excited to see how the business supports Macmillan in the coming months and proud to be doing my part in giving something back to the hard-working people [at] Macmillan who supported Herbie in the final chapter of his life.

We couldn’t be prouder to announce that both Michael and Tom have raised a total of £3,110 at the time of writing.

Please show your support and help Michael and Tom reach their next milestone of £4,000.
