About The George
The George Public House is a Victorian reincarnation of a 15th century coffee house located at the meeting point of the Strand and Fleet Street, directly facing the spectacular architecture of the Royal Courts of Justice and a 10 minute walk from the West End. In the autumn of 2014, The George underwent an extensive and considerate refurbishment of the ground floor bar and first floor dining room. This saw the creation of an elegant and sophisticated restaurant; The Pig and Goose at The George and the Horace Walpole private dining room. We have carefully retained the original features of this historic pub and have tastefully added our own stamp while keeping a traditional feel throughout.
Classic traditional British pub
Our bar is open 7 days a week with a fresh, exciting, classic British menu offering such delights as Hampshire game terrine with beetroot relish, Steamed mussels with shallots, parsley and ale and Barbary duck shepherd’s pie with Autumn greens. The bar features a great range of craft beers, 9 rotating local and national real ales and a carefully crafted wine and spirit selection. Perfect for casual lunch dining, after work drinks, and a weekend meal away from the hustle and bustle of the West End.
Whatever the occasion, the George on the Strand will be able to offer something for everyone, whether it is a romantic meal with a loved one, a birthday celebration in the bar, or a business meeting in the Horace Walpole private dining room, the team look forward to welcoming you.
Both the Pig & Goose and George menus offer the freshest seasonal produce. Our menus will change with the seasons as we work closely with some of London’s finest foods suppliers. We use James Knight of Mayfair for the freshest fish, Select Meats who source all meats from around the home counties and Natoora for our fruit and vegetables, with these great fresh food suppliers you can expect only the best quality to be served.
Both bars are fully stocked with a wide range drinks. We have 20 different whiskies, a great selection of London gins and most importantly we have 9 rotating local ales, using some of the finest breweries in London; Trumans, London Fields, Portobello, Twickenham and many more. All of these ales have the certificate of excellence Cask Marque.
We have a number of interesting craft lagers from America; Fordham Route 1 Session IPA, Dominion Oak Barrel Stout from Denver, Goose Island Honkers ale from Chicago, Anchor Steam Beer from San Francisco. Then there is the great selection from some of London’s craft brewers; Trumans Pale Ale, Camden Unfiltered and Camden Gentleman’s Wit. If you have any suggestions for your preferred ales or craft lagers, please have a chat with Jon and we will see if we can source them and have them available for you.
